Nerve regeneration therapeutic sheet developed by Osaka University

Nerve Regeneration therapeutic sheet

A research team at Osaka University has announced that it has developed a therapeutic sheet that wraps directly around injured nerves to promote nerve regeneration and will start clinical trials in November.

Research teams including several Universities, mainly Osaka University have developed a therapeutic sheet containing a medicine that has the effect of promoting nerve regeneration. The sheet is used by wrapping it directly around an injured nerve in surgery, has been confirmed to have promoted nerve regeneration in experiments using rats, and "carpal tunnel syndrome" where fingertips are numb. And clinical trials for patients with the disease will start in November.

Professor Hiroyuki Tanaka, Graduate School of Medicine, Osaka University said "By applying this sheet, for example, I think that the symptoms it usualy took a year or two to recover, would be gone or improve in half a year. "

The nerve therapeutic wrap sheets would be expected to be applied to various symptoms from nervous injuries such as paralysis and numbness of limbs from cutting or compression of peripheral nerves to accelerate nerve regeneration.
