Air purifier with photocatalyst inactivates Coronavirus

A venture business, KALTECH in Osaka Japan, which started by engineers who previously worked for Sharp, announced that they have confirmed effectiveness of Coronavirus inactivation with the photocatalysts which have been used for thier Air purifier.

Experiments on the photocatalysts have been held with Nihon University and Riken National labolatries, which confirmed more than 99.8% coronavirus inactivated in 20 minutes. Emitting lights to the photocatalyst, Titanium-dioxide, disolve virus to water and CO2.

The experiment was done with 120litter box with floating coronavirus. After 20 minutes with the Air Purifier, 99.8% coronavirus were inactivated while 76% coronavirus reduction in the air without the Air Purifier and still coronavirus may remain active on box's inside surface.

Kaltech have products such as Air Purifier which uses photocatalyst. They increased efficiency of photocatalyst with their titanium dioxide coating technology on the surface of filters, and with controlling stream of air flow. The filter is washable and reusable.

The company Kaltech has established by Junichi Somei who worked for Sharp, developped air purifier filter part, planning business expansion to worldwide.

Currently, there some photocatalyst filters are selling in the market as alternatives to the standard filters, although if there is no lights emitted system in the air purifier to the photocatlists, it wouldn't inactivate Coronavirus.
The benefits of this product are efficient filteration to virus, and efficient inactivation of the virus which caught in the filter, oxidize and decompose the virus.
